Shoplifting is often regarded as a minor crime with few repercussions. It’s seen as something that teens do and grow out of, and most view it as something that can be solved by returning stolen merchandise to a store and apologizing.
However, under Minnesota law, thefts are considered a serious offense that can lead to hefty fines and possible jail time. According to the National Association for Shoplifting Prevention (NASP), more than 10 million people have been caught shoplifting
