Admit it: we have all been to a party and gotten a bit out of control. Usually, we wake up at home the next morning and have to endure the punishment of a hangover… and possibly figuring out what kind of trouble we caused the night before.

But what happens if you wake up in a hospital or detox facility?

Prior drug offenses can add years onto a person’s sentence, even if they have served their time and the offense was committed years in the past. In August, a proposal was made to change the way that these past drug offenses affect sentencing. Under the proposal, prior drug offenses would have less of an impact,

When you are first charged with a criminal offense, the laws and penalties are designed to rehabilitate you, teach you a lesson, and prevent you from committing that crime again.

This is not necessarily the case if you commit the crime again. The logic is that your original penalties weren’t enough, so they must be increased. The penalties are increased even more for additional convictions.

So what happens if you commit the same crime nine times?

Becoming a part of our military brings many privileges and honors, but also higher expectations and more responsibilities than a civilian has. One of those responsibilities is that you must adhere to the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ).

Following the UCMJ means not only obeying civilian law, but also additional military requirements that come with serious consequences if you stray.
